Special Summer Needs at Children and Family Urban Ministries
Ministry at Children and Family Urban Ministries does not take a vacation during the summer. Many of our programs continue and are maintained all year long. There are many needs and many ways to be involved in our summer ministry programs.
Awesome Summer Days, offered Monday through Friday during the Moulton summer break, is an academically-based all-day program. It includes three hours of academic support; instruction in sports such as swimming, tennis and soccer; involvement in the arts; visits to local places of interest and parks; and nurturing the notion that even kids can make a difference in their community and in their world. Volunteers are welcome for any part of the day, but especially in the mornings with the educational activities.
Breakfast Club continues to serve breakfast to children participating in Awesome Summer Days, as well as to any neighborhood children who would like to stop in to say hello and have a good breakfast in a safe, fun environment.
Supper Club offers warm, healthy meals Monday through Saturday to families and youth who live in and around the near north side of Des Moines. Without these meals, families would find it even harder to make ends meet month to month. They also offer an opportunity for dining in a community and family atmosphere. No one likes to eat alone and many of the people who are our guests at The Supper Club look forward to this chance for fellowship each day.
