Our Mission

The mission of CFUM is to create a community to support the potential of children, youth, and families through educational success, healthy living, and community engagement.

Our Neighborhood
We share program and office space with Trinity United Methodist Church and Las Americas de Comunidad in Des Moines. The neighborhood, which we serve, is one of the most ethnically and racially diverse neighborhoods in the state. The median income in the area is below poverty level.

How You Can Help
Your financial contributions as congregations and as individuals make a real difference in the lives of the people we serve. CFUM is a 501-C-3 entity and our tax ID # is 42-1396833. Groups of volunteers from churches, colleges and corporations are the engines propelling CFUM’s daily programs.  Individual volunteers pledging their time and special talents provide enormous support at all levels.  Donations of food, milk, supplies and other gifts-in-kind reduce the amount we need to spend to keep our programs running, allowing those dollars to go toward serving more people in more ways.

We have a list of urgent immediate needs which we update frequently and please see our wishlist and consider making a special donation.  Check back often to see how you can help us find particular items or offer some special volunteer time.

Every citizen’s commitment to love and serve  neighbors, to stand for peace in our community and in the world, and to live ones faith in everyday life furthers our mission and hastens the day when no child will go hungry and no family will struggle to simply live.

Affiliations
CFUM is a mission agency of the Iowa Conference of the United Methodist Church. We collaborate with congregations and individuals from other bodies including the American Baptist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Reformed, and Roman Catholic churches. If your faith is not shown here, help us to list it alongside ours.

An Invitation to Donate to Workplace Giving

Many workplace campaigns take place in the fall.  The campaigns that benefit CFUM are the United Way of Central Iowa campaign for the employees of many, many businesses (United Way Des Moines), the Combined Federal Campaign for employees of the federal government (Northern Lights Combined Federal Campaign – CFUM is charity #64343), and the One Gift Campaign for employees of the state (CFUM is agency 7672).

As you plan your workplace giving through the year, please remember the benefit such giving can be to the community.

If you have questions about the benefit of workplace giving to CFUM, please contact Linda Danielson at linda@cfum.org or 515.282.3242.
