Systems for Change

In partnership with our neighbors, Children and Family Urban Ministries (CFUM) addresses the challenges and builds on the strengths of those living on the near north side of Des Moines. CFUM seeks to create welcome, nurture lives, and promote social and economic justice by bringing together a broad and inclusive community to share the resources and abundance meant for all.

Affiliations
CFUM is a mission agency of the Iowa Conference of the United Methodist Church. We collaborate with congregations and individuals from other bodies including the American Baptist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Reformed, and Roman Catholic churches. If your faith is not shown here, help us to list it alongside ours.

Our Neighborhood
We rent space for our programs and our office at Trinity United Methodist Church in Des Moines. The neighborhood around the church, which we serve, is one of the most ethnically and racially diverse neighborhoods in the state. The median income in the area is below poverty level.

How You Can Help
Your financial contributions as congregations and as individuals make a real difference in the lives of the people we serve. Members of the Circle of Dreamers play an especially important role by making regular pledged contributions.

Groups of volunteers from churches, colleges and corporations are the engines propelling CFUM's daily programs. Individual volunteers pledging their time and special talents provide enormous support at all levels.

During the summer, ministry at CFUM does not take a vacation. Many of our programs continue and are maintained all year long. There are many needs and many ways to be involved in our summer ministry programs. See the special summer needs page for details.

Donations of food, milk, supplies and other gifts-in-kind reduce the amount we need to spend to keep our programs running, allowing those dollars to go toward serving more people in more ways.

We have a list of urgent immediate needs which we update frequently. Please check often to see how you can help us find particular items or offer some special volunteer time.

Every citizen's commitment to love and serve her neighbors, to stand for peace in our community and in the world, and to live his faith in everyday life furthers our mission and hastens the day when no child will go hungry and no family will struggle to simply live.
